Research as the central activity
Realidad e Historia works primarily in the social sciences and humanities. Its orientation grows out of social research, critical analysis of societies and cultures, and the production of knowledge through explicit methodological procedures, source review, data collection and reasoned presentation of results.
Research is not treated as an activity detached from its context. The work favours a situated perspective attentive to the historical and social conditions in which research problems arise, and committed to intellectually rigorous, transparent and responsible practices toward the people and communities involved.
Education, publishing and the circulation of knowledge
Research is accompanied by education, teaching and public outreach, as well as the preparation of academic and cultural materials. Publishing is understood as part of the knowledge-production cycle: it allows results to be discussed, preserved, scrutinised and made accessible to specialised communities and broader publics.
Within this framework, work includes scientific journals and books, publishing imprints, editorial platforms, and the construction or adaptation of technologies for digital publishing. These technical capacities exist to sustain academic processes with continuity and quality, rather than as an end separate from them.
Institutional structure and legal responsibility
The name Realidad e Historia does not, by itself, designate a single legal person. In Chile it is used by two independent companies whose purposes allow different components of the academic and editorial work to be carried out. Sociedad de Investigación Social y Difusión Cultural Realidad e Historia Limitada, founded in 2019 and currently based in Yumbel, is oriented toward research, experimental development in the social sciences and humanities, education and cultural outreach.
Sociedad de Estudios y Publicaciones Realidad e Historia SpA, founded in 2025 and based in Concepción, concentrates on scholarly publishing: journal and book publishing, editorial management, platform administration, digital tool development and publishing imprints. It may also support academic projects through coordination, advisory work and dissemination of results.
The two companies are legally distinct and do not constitute a single commercial company. Whenever an activity entails contractual, tax or patrimonial obligations, the relationship belongs exclusively to the legal entity that convenes or carries out that activity.
Academic continuity and outlook
The continuity of Realidad e Historia rests on a simple idea: to conduct rigorous research and create the conditions for that knowledge to be taught, discussed, published and preserved. Its editorial and technological work therefore develops as an extension of a broader academic practice.
Its outlook seeks to strengthen networks of collaboration within and beyond Chile, especially in the social sciences and humanities, promoting exchanges that connect research, education and scholarly communication with intellectual seriousness, institutional clarity and respect for the work of others.
